I still have concerns about H5N1, but I’m getting chickens if I can find any. Most of the hatcheries are 90+ days out on dual purpose birds, and I really don’t want to deal with straight run/hatching eggs. It may be my only option, and I can send extra roosters to “freezer camp” if needed.
Believe it or not, this is going to be a chicken coop when we get done. It was an enclosed porch on a house until 1998, when my father in law moved it to its current location where it’s been ever since. It’s been a storage/junk shed since then and we are repurposing it. Most of the materials we need for the remodel were free to us, so we aren’t that deep financially yet.

We have to repair the door and add hardware cloth or replace it, put a new wall on, predator proof the windows on the north end so they can be opened and closed as needed, and get an electric fence. Aside from chickens, that’s going to be our biggest expense.
Getting it cleaned out has proved to be a challenge. There was so much stuff in there. I even found a vintage Polaroid Land Camera that seems to be in really good condition. It was inside the original carry bag, which has seen better days, but it was protected from the worst of the dust and moisture. It’s not in pristine condition, but the inside parts are free from corrosion, so I’m willing to give it a try.

I haven’t had a lot of time to post my weekly chore list, but believe me when I say I have gotten a lot done. Work is nuts, and I’m exhausted by the time I get home. There isn’t much brain left to formulate posts at the end of the day. I spend a lot of my evenings watching other people in their gardens on YouTube. Daylight saving time is here, so I’ll have more sunshine after work and will be able to get more done in the afternoons instead of trying to get everything done on the weekends. Spring and early summer is really my favorite time of year.
